Choosing the best monitor for Overwatch
The wide variety of fast, responsive, and vivid game monitor options on the market make it difficult for the average gamer to choose what suits their gaming needs. With Overwatch, in particular, there are several things you need to consider when determining. whether or not a monitor is ideal for the fast-paced style of play.
Blizzards use short animations and a few other methods to tell the story of Overwatch. After a robotic assault on humanity by the “Omnics”, which were robots meant to help create economic equality, each country responded with various programs.
The United States developed the Soldier Enhancement Program, which aimed to create elite fighters to fight against attacks. On the contrary, Germany created the Crusaders, which are more reminiscent of medieval knights. All of these programs were ultimately combined to create Overwatch.
Thirty years after the Omnics attack and six years after Overwatch was dismantled due to intense internal feuds and mismanagement, corrupt companies have led others to take over and attempt to reassemble Overwatch. The story is surprisingly detailed and more than enough to make things interesting for players who like their games to have a bit more depth.
What Makes a Monitor Good for Overwatch?
Well, this is a very important question that all Overwatch gamers are probably asking themselves. Don’t worry, here are a few features that literally make a great monitor for Overwatch.
Maximum refresh rate
The first and foremost feature that a good monitor should have is a refresh rate of a minimum of 144 fps and a maximum of 240 fps preferably. During our analysis, we found that not all professionals use such a monitor. As a result, it is clear to understand that this type of monitor certainly offers a set of advantages.
Typical monitors typically update the image at a rate of 60 times per second, which is good for things like watching movies. But if you’re playing a fast-paced game like Overwatch, typical monitors don’t go overboard.
That’s why you need a monitor with a high refresh rate. You can make full use of the various abilities and projectiles used in the game.
IPS screen panel:
Unlike older monitors with TN panels, which were prone to poor viewing angles, IPS display panels are superior in all respects. This is one of the most important requirements for professional gamers to play Overwatch because it offers multiple benefits.
Besides, there are a few factors you need to understand to buy a gaming monitor. So just understand that a high refresh rate and IPS panel can give you a smooth gaming experience.
The 10 best monitors for Overwatch 2021
Everyone is looking for a quality monitor to play Overwatch. That’s why we only look for monitors that are used by professionals and recommended by experts. Besides the high refresh rate, we also dig into each screen to find other essential features. It took hours and hours, and in the end, we picked the best monitors for you.
Update frequency
Since Overwatch is fast-paced gameplay, you want a monitor that can keep up with the game. Standard monitors typically refresh the image 60 times per second, and while this is sufficient for watching movies, first-person photographers require much faster refresh rates.
Pick a gaming monitor with a refresh rate of at least 144Hz to feel a massive upgrade from your regular monitor. If you want to take it up a notch, a 240Hz display will provide a professional gaming experience.
However, you should note that the jump from 144Hz to 240Hz won’t be as big as the improvement from 60Hz to 144Hz. Either way, having a high refresh rate monitor will definitely help you aim better and hunt down the Genji who annoy healers.
Your team as the images become smoother. You would never find a professional Overwatch gamer using a 60Hz monitor, as that would put them at a serious disadvantage.
Response time and entry delay
- Response Time: Indicates how fast a pixel can go from black to white and vice versa on your monitor.
- Entry Delay – Measures the delay between when you enter a command on your keyboard, mouse, or controller and when it connects to your monitor.
Low input lag is arguably more important than fast response time in fast first-person shooter games, as it helps minimize the delay between the press of a key and when the monitor records. the command.
Manufacturers typically do not disclose the input lag produced by their monitors, but websites like Display Ninja and RTINGS use dedicated tools to measure this lag. Ideally, your monitor should have no more than 10ms of input delay. None of the gaming monitors on this list go over 5ms, so you can be sure they’re ideal for Overwatch.
While the fast response time isn’t as valuable as the low input lag, it still has a significant impact on your viewing experience. You want whatever monitor you choose to have a response time of no more than 5ms, as all of the above tend to blur images with ghosting.
Almost all of the monitors on this list have a fast 1ms response time to ensure smooth visuals in Overwatch.
Screen resolution
Screen resolution is also a key consideration in choosing a gaming monitor, as it determines the sharpness and detail of your images. While Quad HD (2560 × 1440) and 4K Ultra HD (3840 × 2160) provide stunning clarity, Overwatch gamers generally prefer Full HD (1920 × 1080), getting higher resolution offers little visual enhancement in-game.
Additionally, higher resolutions put a lot more strain on your processor and graphics card, which means you’ll have to spend thousands of dollars to purchase components that can reach 4K Ultra HD at 144 FPS.
On the other hand, it might be a good idea to upgrade to Quad HD if you’re currently playing on a Full HD monitor and consistently exceeding 144 FPS. You can also check references from reliable sources to see if your current equipment can handle Quad HD or 4K resolution.
Final words
Based solely on what professional Overwatch gamers use, it’s clear that 240Hz monitors are the way to go if you want to move up the ranks. Gaming is also relatively easy to boost at high frame rates, which is why half of the monitors considered above have this refresh rate.
You can always spend less on a 144Hz monitor if you don’t currently have the hardware or budget to hit 240Hz. It all depends on your personal preference and budget.
